On Thursday, October 28th Mark Zuckerberg announced the rebranding of one of the most used online platforms known as Facebook. This rebrand comes after many scandals over the last couple of years. The most recent backlash the media mogul has been facing comes from a whistleblower named Frances Haugen. After leaving the media firm Haugen leaked tens of thousands of pages of internal documents. These documents depict just how corrupt Facebook and its algorithm are.
Not only has Zuckleberg been betrayed and his reputation dragged through the mud but he also is facing the that fact many users no longer want to abide by Facebook's so called "security policy". Haugen sheds light on just how the media firm is using their user's information and putting their profit over the safety and protection of their users.
"The result has been more division, more harm, more lies, more threats, and more combat. In some cases, this dangerous online talk has led to actual
violence that harms and even kills people," Haugen testified. This is extremely saddening to know how social media can bring together one another but at the same time decide us and keep us in our bubbles.
